Travis Eggers of Upper Iowa moved into the finals at 157 pounds, coming from behind in regulation, but eventually winning over Mercyhurst’s Andy Lamancusa in the second sudden victory period.

Wrestling 411’s Kyle Klingman caught up with Eggers to talk about his upcoming match with Todd Meneely and why he chose Upper Iowa.

Full match video from last Wednesday’s Minnesota State vs. Upper Iowa dual from Mankato, Minn.

It’s been a trend in college wrestling to have less than stellar wrestling when two highly-ranked teams collide in mid-season duals. Instead of following the trend, Minnesota State and Upper Iowa gave the crowd at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn., plenty to be excited about as the host Mavericks, ranked third in Division II, topped Heath Grimm’s Peacocks 29-12 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup.

With six of the 10 wrestlers in Wednesday’s match ranked nationally and a total of 18 wrestlers ranked in the NSIC, the outcome wasn’t easily predetermined, but for Mavericks coach Jim Makovsky, his squad attacked and put pressure on their opponents throughout the night.

We had a real treat in the noon hour on Wednesday when Kyle Klingman and I had the priviledge to inteview the author of Vision Quest, Terry Davis.

Davis penned Vision Quest in 1976 but it wasn’t published until 1979. The now-retired Creative Writing professor at Minnesota State is working on a screen play and a novel but took time out to give Wrestling 411 the details of Vision Quest, the movie and its significance.
