The National Wrestling Coaches Association wrapped up its annual convention in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last weekend and Executive Director Mike Moyer was pleased with the turn out. Among the issues discussed were approaches coaches can market and promote their programs by becoming a CEO rather than “just” a wrestling coach.

Among the topics also discussed besides the successful Coaches Academy were APR, scheduling and and discussion about shifting the college wrestling season. Get all the details by listening in.

Among the topics discussed were the shift in season, existing tournaments, the effect on smaller divisions and academic performance.

With the Division II and Division III rankings and National Duals draws coming out yesterday, here’s the first round matchups between ranked wrestlers and the ranked wrestlers competing in the event.

We start off with a dandy with the top bracket’s first dual providing the only #1 vs. #2 in the first round.

In Division II, expect a lot of movement, because 58 of the 80 ranked wrestlers in the classification will be wrestling on the mats in Cedar Falls. (Division II ranks eight wrestlers per weight).

Of the top-ranked wrestlers, seven #1-ranked wrestlers will be in attendance, as well as eight #2’s.

Norwich University wrestling coach, Rich Hasenfus, contacted the NWCA to advise us that his administration will be eliminating their varsity wrestling program at the end of this year.  This is the second dropped wrestling program in the past week (Lawrence University has also dropped…we are working on contacting their coach for more information).  With the current state of the economy, we can be assured that more carnage is on its way for All Olympic sports if we don’t mount a very aggressive “public relations” campaign immediately.
