Drew Pariano was an All-American at Northwestern before going back to his native Ohio to start his coaching career. After a stint at Cleveland’s John Carroll University, Pariano took the reigns as the head coach at Cornell College in Iowa before returning to his alma mater as an assistant under Tim Cysewski.

Pariano has helped revitalize The Midlands, bringing in new schools and has the energy in Evanston building. Constantly working, Pariano talks to Jason Bryant of Wrestling 411 about the state of the program, the addition of Matt Storniolo to the coaching staff and the youth throughout the lineup this coming year.

Wrestling 411’s Jason Bryant and Kyle Klingman broke the news tonight on the program of the announcement with Northwestern’s Jake Herbert winning the 2009 Dan Hodge Trophy.

Joining Jason and Kyle were the award’s founder Mike Chapman and W.I.N. publisher Bryan Van Kley.

Chapman gave history on the award and information about the selection process, while Van Kley told a nationwide audience live who this year’s winner was.

Herbert then joined Wrestling 411 for the third segment to talk about the award.

Would you listen to someone who loves to rock a mullet, paint their face and wear spandex when it comes to wrestling advice?

You would if the spandex-wearing, face-painting, mullet-sporting Jake Herbert was giving it.

Herbert, 23, returned to Division I wrestling this season after spending much of the 2007-08 year working towards making the Olympic Games in freestyle. But as Herbert fell short of his lofty goals in 2008, he returned to Northwestern’s Evanston, Ill., campus with goals of returning to the top of the podium.
