Jason Bryant here from Wrestling411. Another great show tonight with guest Pat Santoro from Lehigh. The podcast is now available for those that missed the live show on KAUG, you can click the player below and listen in.

Santoro gave us a lot of good insight on the history of Lehigh wrestling, what it’s like to wrestle at Grace Hall and wrestling against his old team and his upcoming match against Pittsburgh.

Gerry Leeman – former head wrestling coach at Lehigh University and a true wrestling legend – passed away on October 10, 2008, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Leeman was 86 years old.

As a wrestler and a coach, Leeman did it all. He won three state titles at Osage, an NCAA title and Outstanding Wrestler award at Iowa State Teachers College in 1946, two national AAU title (including one while he was still in high school), and a silver medal at 1948 Olympics.

From 1953-1970, as the head coach at Lehigh, he compiled a 161-38-4 dual meet record, coaching six of his wrestlers to nine NCAA titles.

But these are only statistics – and in no way do they capture the essence of who Gerry Leeman is.

Leeman lived a tough life.
