Before he went to Christiansburg High School in Virginia to coach wrestling, Daryl Weber was winning titles at the Kevin DresserUniversity of Iowa. A three-time All-American and 1996 NCAA champion for the Hawkeyes, Weber made a name for himself by being one of the best conditioned wrestlers in the nation. His run his NCAA title included victories over two former NCAA champions.

Weber is coaching for Team Virginia at Junior Nationals in Fargo and Wrestling 411 discussed the transition from competitor to coach. The Gilbertville, Iowa, native also talked about wrestling for Don Bosco, cutting from 158 to 142 to make the Iowa team in 1994, and expectations for Team Virginia at Fargo.

    What these guys have done in Christiansburg is proof that wrestling can be grown. “It’s not on the culture here,” is no excuse anymore.
